It was a week back. Me and a 'couple' of dear friends were travelling in a rick towards Juhu. Below the Andheri bridge, the rick screeched to a halt at the signal. A ten year old girl, with a bunch of a dozen roses, came towards us with a cheery smile and glittering kohl lined eyes. Seeing the pretty couple in the rick, she had found the right customer. Out of curiosity, "How much?" i asked. "Bees rupiya", said the little one. I thought it was a steal and the girl might have thought it was a done deal.
I glanced towards my friend, if he would like to buy them for his sweetheart. He decided not to. The little girl with roses insisted, "Saahab le lo....bees rupiya hi toh hai". A couple of no, no's and it was time for signal to turn green. The disheartened girl knew this was yet another opportunity gone abegging. Just as the rick started moving, she plucked out a rose from the bunch and handed it over to my friend. We kept saying no and the girl said.."Kuch nahin saahab rakh lo...." She smiled and went away..
I know where to buy my next bunch of roses from.... Even if i have no one in perticular to give them to....
