We will be back

I dedicated the post- 'it's not all over' to one of my friends, Siddhesh and mailed him.He came up with a typical sentimental reply which reads something like this..

Yogesh,

i know that was for me..cud relate myself..will reply in detail 2'row..but for now..my dream has been shattered yaar..rlly disturbed, upset n disappointed..

nice mail that is..felt nice..but wondering, will my dream ever come true..or will elave this world with the dream lyin stale in my eyes without comin true?

n ya left out one point (how cud I)...its not jus a game..atleast for me..

- Siddhesh

I had to write back.

Siddhesh,

I can understand yaar.I know how shell shattered i was when we lost the cup on the same day 4 years back.Frankly, the difference between two sides is huge.In 2003, we had Srinath who was bowling at his best,Tendlya batting at his best,Ganguly leading from the front,Dravid was a rock solid support and kept the wickets thus leaving us with an option of playing a batsman or a bowler extra.Guys like Ashish Nehra and Zahir (until that final match) were supprting Srinath brilliantly.

Assess in the most objective manner. We came into the tournament without being sure of who will open and whether Mr. Sehwag will fire or not.Tendulkar has been On and Off starter for most of the times and clearly his best is behind him, Dravid'd defence is no longer watertight and captaincy uninspiring, and Saurav is not the same man who hoisted Murli for 5 sixes during his 183.It will be better if i dont comment on lack of potency of Zaheer, Munaf, Agarkar and Bhajji.Yuvraj has time and agin flattered to deceive, while Uthappa is Sehwag reincanated. There is no difference in the way they bat or their attitude towards bowling. What has bitten Mr. Dhoni is hard to tell.

We would have gone into Super 8s ideally, but i practically had no hopes any further.Just look at the way Australia, SA, Kiwis and Lankans are playing. Then you know where we stand. The current situation is precarious.No-one knows who should be the skipper next or what should the team look like.So let this phase pass.At times, time comes up with best of the answers.

As far as your dream is concerned, no-one thought Kapil's guys will bring the cup. They did.Aussies were a listless side from 82-87.Then came the resurgence under Allan Border and rest as we know is history.Allen, Steve and now Ricky everyone shared the same vision, never said die and look where they are now.In a way, this loss should make us look at things in a clearer perspective. And that is where i see seeds of better tomorrow coming up.So don't give up the faith, you may never know we might claim the cup on our soil four years down the line.

Keep cheering for the game.
